Minoo Golvala was born in India to Persian parents. At the age of 18, he was awarded a scholarship to the Conservatory in Rome. Golvala subsequently went on to study in London and trained at the Guildhall School of Music under Parry-Jones. As of the 1973 programme for the musical version of Two Gentlemen of Verona, he had sung at the Royal Opera House and toured with the Glyndebourne touring company.
