Leila Bertrand trained at Webber Douglas. Her first professional engagement was Peter Dews's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream in Plymouth. Prior to this, Bertrand had worked in fringe at the Elephant Theatre, Half Moon and Rob Walker Black Theatre Co-op, according to her Plymouth programme biography.
