PRINCIPAL CAST: Fisayo Akinade (Mercutio); Jessie Buckley (Juliet); Deborah Findlay (Nurse); Lucian Msamati (Friar Laurence); Josh O'Connor (Romeo).
This production was originally scheduled to open in the Lyttelton in August 2020, but was cancelled due to the theatre closures during the coronavirus pandemic. The production was announced in November 2019 and already had Fisayo Akinade, Jessie Buckley and Josh O'Connor attached.
NB: The character Ella Dacres plays was called Peta in the film, but it is listed here under the name Shakespeare gave, Peter, in order to track the casting in the roles counter for the play.
The production was filmed in the Lyttelton Theatre over seventeen days and aired on Sky Arts in April 2021.
