"The naval white uniforms are fine, there's clever work with a vast blue parachute-silk cloth to represent sea waves, but I kept being distracted, pulled up sharp. The band of spirits wear aprons, headscarves and white stockings, like a cross between operating-theatre nurses and Vermeer peasants." ~ Libby Purves, The Times, 29 August 2012, in Theatre Record 2012, Issue 2012
"Last year in San Diego, Adrian Noble's outdoor production of The Tempest played to rapturous reviews at the Old Globe Shakespeare Festival, of which he is artistic director. Recast with British actors, and sheltering from the tempestuous British summer at the Theatre Royal Bath, the production retains its original costumes, design and creative team. The empty stage, aqueously lit, is flanked by a couple of high platforms that provide a perch for musicians, sailors and assorted spirits. The gentle sound of waves fills the auditorium until Prospero's magical tempest strikes the panicky crew of sailors and their noble Italian passengers, nattily clad in Ruritanian uniforms of pristine white and gold." ~ Jane Shilling, Daily Telegraph, 30 August 2012, in Theatre Record 2012, Issue 2012
