Black Lear (1980): Temba Theatre Company
"Recently the Temba Theatre Company performed Alton Kumalo's play, Theresa in this theatre [the Midlands Arts Centre, Birmingham]. Now Mr. Kumalo is playing the central role in the company's tour of Barrie Keeffe's powerfully written Black Lear....While in contrast to Shakespeare's play, this drama is a chamber work, in common with Shakespeare's play it has many moods, gets to the heart of things and to moral crisis in particular. The company, directed by the feminist Ann Mitchell, gives us an object lesson in what new theatre can mean."
~ D. J. Hart, Birmingham Post, 31 October 1980
