Romeo and Juliet (1990): Hull Truck
PRINCIPAL CAST: Claire Benedict (Nurse); Paul Brennen (Mercutio); Guy Burgess (Tybalt); Roland Gift (Romeo); Daphne Nayar (Juliet); Miles Richardson (Benvolio).
The production toured the UK from May - September 1990 and did a run of four days in New York (Staller Center at Stonybrook) in July, playing Hull, Wakefield, London (Shaw Theatre), Wolverhampton, Bury St. Edmunds, Newcastle, Cambridge, York and Edinburgh.
"With casting that covers a broad ethnic spectrum, the Hull Truck troupe's modern-dress version of the play has a lot of the look but only a little of the feel of a Stephen Frears movie like Sammy and Rosie [Get Laid], which depicts London as a seething multinational city." ~ Stephen Holden, The New York Times, 14 July 1990
