This production ran from 1979-80 and was performed at: the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon; the Theatre Royal, Newcastle-upon-Tyne; and the Aldwych Theatre, London.
This was the last production of Othello at the Royal Shakespeare Company to feature a white actor in the title role.
John Matshikiza appeared in the production during its Stratford and Newcastle runs only. Art Malik appeared in this production at the Aldwych Theatre, London only.
