"Donnellan recasts Messina as turn-of-the-century England, and its returning army as toy soldiers, imperially bedecked in bottle green, with whiskers as neatly clipped as their cut-glarse vowels. Guffawing and cavorting in homoerotic scrums, the company offer up this chin-lite battalion in all its faint ridiculousness." ~ Brian Logan, "Okey blokey", Observer, 14 June 1998
