The contemplative Mr. Gielgud, who is perfectly at ease with the delicate intellect and flower-like imagination of Richard II and can render with brilliant exactness Lear's progress from worldly to spiritual authority, has not the same degree of sympathy with the comparatively simple character of Macbeth."
