"I will say this for Howard Davies's Stratford production of Henry VIII: it certainly isn't boring. With its jaunty, pastiche Weill music and its Brechtian undercutting of bogus pageantry, it brings a defiantly modern spirit to a late, unloved play. But although Mr Davies (assisted by David Edgar) treats the piece as if it were a Tawneyesque study of the link between religion and capitalism, his approach is at odds with the play that Shakespeare (assisted by John Fletcher) actually wrote." ~ Michael Billington, "Mocked Tudor", The Guardian, 16 June 1983
