Wyllie Longmore was born in Jamaica and has been resident in the UK since 1961. He trained at Rose Bruford College. His biography in the 1983 Duke's Playhouse, Lancaster production of Athol Fugard's Statements After an Arrest Under the Immorality Act states that "Until 1981 he taught in the Drama Department of Manchester University. Since then he has been with Leeds Theatre in Education Company." Longmore won Best Actor at the Manchester Evening News awards for his performance in Athol Fugard's My Children! My Africa!, directed by Ian Forrest at the Octagon Theatre in 1995. Longmore also directed the regional premiere of Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun at the Contact Theatre, Manchester. His non-Shakespearean classical credits include playing the title role in Christopher Marlowe's Dr. Faustus at the Liverpool Everyman in 1991. The programme for The Merchant of Venice also lists a production of King Lear in his credits, but we have been unable to find information on the production at this time.
