Rudolph Walker was born in Trinidad and Tobago and came to Britain in 1960. He was one of the first black actors to appear regularly on television and since 2001 has appeared as Patrick Trueman on Eastenders. In an interview with The Voice, Walker spoke of the racism he encountered in the 1960s when he was embarking on his acting career: “I was a pioneer. I was determined to be an actor and no amount of racism or prejudice was going to stand in my way.” Walker was made an OBE in 2006.
