Emma Wolukau-Wanambwa was born in Glasgow and her family is from Uganda. She read English at Cambridge University and trained as a theatre director at the Royal Shakespeare Company at the age of 23. She completed an MA at the Slade School of Fine Art in 2008. Wolukau-Wanambwa's multi-media work has been exhibited internationally.
