Charles Hyatt was an actor, broadcaster and comedian. Born in Jamaica, he was based in the UK from 1961 - 1974. Hyatt came to Britain in 1961 on a Jamaica Arts Council Scholarship. His biography in The Black Macbeth programme states: "He can lay claim to the distinction of being the first black gravedigger in an otherwise all-white cast playing Hamlet at the Phoenix Theatre, Leicester." At this time, there has been no further information located about this production. He died in 2007.
